Braves leaving town

The news has broken that the Richmond Braves are going to be leaving Richmond in the next year or two and move to Gwinnett County, GA. That is a northern suburb of Atlanta if you, like me, had no idea. Our low attendance numbers and inability to work out a new stadium deal in any reasonable timeframe has given the team the desire to make a change. It also looks like it may be difficult for another team to move here, or maybe not so hard depending on which Times Dispatch article you read. Feel free to share your favorite R-Braves memories in the comments.

Sorry for the delay in posts. Had a busy holiday season but I want to get back on track now.
We had some big instate basketball games recently. JMU pulled out a big victory in dropping VCU with a buzzer beater by Juwann James. Also UofR hosted VT and was able to pull off the victory 52-49.
Liveblogging: Richmond Rowdies vs Maryland Tigers

I’m at the Richmond Rowdies game with my laptop, clearwire and a battery doing some liveblogging. The Rowdies kick off their season tonight at SCOR. I absolutely LOVE indoor soccer and am very excited about the Rowdies! I’ll try to put up some photos and maybe a video clip or two during the game along with some comments. Apparently my batteries are just about dead so I’ll be light on the photos and videos. Next game.
They are doing the introductions right now. There is a good size crowd here for the Rowdies and even about 20 people here for the Tigers.

The Rowdies scored first on a long drifting kick that the Tigers goalie couldn’t handle. 1-0 Rowdies!
The Tigers tie it up 1-1 on a nice give and go. 1-1
The Rowdies go up 2-1 on a goal by Ralph Pace that sneaked in after some bumping in the corner!
Make that 3-1 on a goal by coach/midfielder Kyle Lessig!
End of the first period. Still 3-1.

Second period action is pretty intense but no scores yet. I’m going to have to learn all the PASL rules as they have penalty box type stuff.
The Tigers pick up a goal off the scramble after a free kick. 3-2
And that is the half. 3-2 Rowdies. We have some kids(under 12) coming out to play a mini-game at halftime.
The second half is under way! The Tigers have come out aggressive!
Rowdies goal on a powerful kick by a player whose name I can’t pronounce. 4-2!
Rowdies goal by Andy McIntosh! 5-2!
Tigers get a goal on a fast break. 5-3
Tigers get another as the Rowdies didn’t rotate on defense. 5-4
Rowdies goal by Andy McIntosh as he gets the ball away from their goalie. End of the 3rd period with a score of 6-4
Rowdies timeout with 9:31 left in the game.
Rowdies goal on a POWERFUL kick on Andy McIntosh! 7-4
Rowdies goal on nice passing! Finished by Chris Green, 8-4!
Fantastic acrobatic save by the Rowdies GK Tommy Wendall!
The Rowdies win 8-4!!! The Rowdies will next be home on January 5th hosting the Virginia(Williamsburg) Legacy. Come on out and support the team! I may try to do some live video from that one.
