VCU’s Basketball team will be hosting Virginia State for their first pre-season exhibition game on Thursday night at 7:30 at the Siegel Center. Then on Monday night they host Virginia Union for another exhibition also at 7:30 at the Siegel Center. College basketball is getting started! So exciting! Go Rams!
We have Indoor Soccer!

Are there any indoor soccer fans out there? I don’t know about you, but I love watching(and occasionally playing) indoor soccer. Lucky for us we have the semi-pro Richmond Rowdies in town! The Rowdies are playing in the PASL(official minor league of the MISL) and will play their home games at SCOR. Games are just $5 for adults and free for anyone under 18(!). While the official schedule has not been released yet I’ve found out that their first game will be December 1st at 7pm at home(SCOR) against the Maryland Tigers. Put that date on your calendar and I’ll be reminding you again about it.
Also, if you are significantly better than I am at playing indoor soccer and want to try out for the Rowdies you can find out more about their upcoming(Nov 4th) open tryout at the SCOR website.
Opening night for Renegades Hockey
Tonight is opening night for our Richmond Renegades! If you are available and a hockey fan I suggest you get on out to the Coliseum tonight for the 7:30 game. Then when you get home post a comment on what you thought.
Update: The Renegades lost their opener tonight 5-3. They took a 3-1 lead early but couldn’t hold as as Jacksonville came storming back. For more information click here. Next game is Friday night at home hosting the Twin City Cyclones.
Football: Richmond Spiders at JMU
The Spiders are up in Harrisonburg playing at JMU today at noon. The game is being broadcast on Comcast SportsNet if you want to check it out. Leave your comments on the game in the comments of this post. Go spiders!
Update: The Spiders jumped out to a 17-0 lead today and was able to hang on for the victory as JMU came fighting back. The final score was 17-16. The Spiders were again led by the amazing Tim Hightower who finished with 102 yards rushing and a touchdown. To find out more click here.
Bring back Arena Football?

A number of you have already voted in the poll on the right, but in case you haven’t seen it we want to know what new professional sport you want in Richmond? Right now Arena Football is leading the poll by a healthy margin. We’ve had arena football here before with both the Speed and the Bandits. The Speed were in the AF2(minor league for the AFL) and the Bandits were in the AIFL(now the AIFA). The Bandits folded after a disagreement with the league and it looks like there is talk of bringing back the Speed. I’ll see if I can find out more information about that but if you know anything about it leave a comment and let us know.
Tim Hightower is amazing

If you haven’t been paying attention to Richmond Spiders football this year you have been missing out! The Spiders are 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CAA. If(when?!?) we beat JMU this weekend we’ll be tied for the lead in the CAA South division. The real story this season has been senior running back Tim Hightower. He has been incredible! Through 7 games he has 1099 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns! If that wasn’t enough then don’t forget his 3 receiving touchdowns as well! He was recently added to the watch list for the Walter Payton Award which “is given annually to the most outstanding player at the Football Championship Subdivision level.” Make sure you get a chance to see Tim play this year! You can watch Saturday’s game versus JMU at noon at Comcast SportsNet.
Meet the Virginia Ravens

Until recently I was totally unaware of the Virginia Ravens. They are our semi-pro football team that plays in the Maxon-Dixon Football League(MDFL). It is considered a AAA football league. That is interesting enough as it is, but apparently the Ravens are really good! In fact, they just won the Northern Conference Championship and play the Fayetteville RuffRiders on Saturday for the MDFL Championship up in Winchester, VA. Minor League Football News lists them as the 18th best AAA team in the country in their most recent poll. I’ll let you know how they do on Saturday. Go Ravens!
Update: The Ravens won the championship game 42-6! This is their 3rd MDFL championship in the past 4 years! Go Ravens!
Renegades Hockey starts soon

Our very own Richmond Renegades will open their season this Saturday night here in Richmond against the Jacksonville Barracudas. The action starts at 7:35 at the Richmond Coliseum so come early to get your tickets and don’t miss any of the action!
